British Ordovician Trilobite Ogyginus corndensis

Camnant Mudstone Formation, Gilwern Hill near Llandrindrod Wells, Powys, Wales

This is a nice large example of this classic British trilobite measuring 10cm in length on a sizeable piece of matrix measuring 25cm by 10cm at its widest points.

This specimen was found in 1980 and presented as a gift to Dr David Gerlad (Dave) Hessayon OBE. (1928-2025) who was the Chief Scientist with Pan Britannica Industries and a best selling author of a number of well known gardening books which have sold millions of copies.

There is a small metal plaque on the matrix which reads

1st March 1980. 25th Anniversary of Dave Hessayon with Pan Britannica Industries Ltd. & 500 Millionth Anniversary of Ogyginus corndensis on Earth.

The trilobite has some mild loss to the body shell on the right hand cheek else a very good large size specimen collected over 45 years ago,

Nowadays its rare to find nice large specimens at this classic locality.

Specimen is heavy, nearly two kilos packed
