This is a handcrafted concert ukulele by Tatsuhiro Kobayashi, model NCT-04UK, serial number 241248, made in 2024. Crafted under the guidance of the late master classical guitar maker Yukinobu Chai, Kobayashi has established his own workshop in Hokota City, Ibaraki Prefecture, specializing in handmade classical guitars and ukuleles. This ukulele features premium materials typically found in high-end guitars, including a spruce top and highly seasoned, 40-year-old rosewood (Hakaranda) for the sides and back, sourced from guitar maker Teruaki Nakade.
The instrument boasts a solid wood construction with a spruce top, ebony fingerboard, and 19-fret concert size body, larger than a soprano ukulele, offering rich volume and a warm, singing tone. The fretboard includes position markers at 5, 7, 10, 12, and 15-17 frets, with luxurious white pearl inlay of a hibiscus design around the 15-17 fret area. The binding and side purfling are crafted from maple, with decorative herringbone inlay on the top and headstock, adding elegance to its appearance.
The elegant rosette features intricate mother-of-pearl and white pearl accents, enhancing its luxurious aesthetic. The tuning pegs are high-quality Gotoh Japan-made tuners, ensuring smooth tuning. The ukulele comes with a hard case for protection and portability.
This concert ukulele produces a clear, resonant sound with excellent projection, perfect for both performance and recording. Its exquisite craftsmanship and refined design make it a true collector’s piece and a joy to play.
