Made in Hawaii, USA | 1980s Era | Hand-Screened Art Print | Short Sleeve Camp Collar | Authentic Hawaiian Manufacture
Surf Line Hawaii is one of the founding names of American surf culture and Hawaiian apparel. Founded in 1964 in Honolulu by Dave Rochlen, the shop produced the original Jams shorts that transformed surf style globally in the mid-1960s. The brand expanded through the 1980s with bold, art-driven print garments cut and sewn in their Oahu factory — each piece using hand-screened, hand-painted art printed on fabric and produced by Hawaiian workers in Hawaii. By the 1990s, the company transitioned to the Jams World branding as it shifted toward resort and lifestyle wear, and the original Surf Line Hawaii / Original Jams labels were retired. Shirts still bearing the Surf Line Hawaii and Original Jams labels are authentic artifacts from the height of the brand's most creative and collectible era.
This Men's Large is a short-sleeve button-up aloha shirt in a vivid tropical floral print — orange, purple, green, and pink tones with bold hibiscus blooms, palm fronds, and a watercolor-wash background. The print is bold and saturated, consistent with the distinctive 1980s Surf Line Hawaii art direction. Camp collar, coconut-style dark buttons, single chest pocket with the Original Jams woven label, and a straight hem complete the construction. The shirt presents in very good used condition with excellent color retention.
