Nowadays, I find it refreshing to hear bands that are completely devoid of pretense, have no interest in being artsy, technical or progressive (an adjective that I find increasingly synonymous with "pure sh*t"), and desire only to kick total a*s - Baphomets Horns is one of those bands.
These grimy, blood-stained soldiers of the Devil himself have put together nine tracks of utter sh*t-kicking, "Satanic War F*cking Metal", to quote the band themselves. Guitars are blurry, murky and follow the same chord progressions with no deviation. I assume the bass follows the guitar lines note-for-note, but this being full-on, dirty war metal, you'd never know because it's completely buried in the mix. The vocals are throat-shredding, infernal screeches punctuated with the occasional pukish "Bluahhh!" The drums...well...let's just say that anyone who goes by the name Funeral F*ck had better be able to back that sh*t up (or at least play well enough that people don't snicker every time they hear it), and does he ever, blasting out continuous enfillades meant only to mow down Christendom. Mr. F.F. does know how to do other things, though, namely work the double-basses and his cymbals, especially the ride, which he'll occasionally use to throw in two or three bell rings before launching into his next percussive onslaught. Oh, another thing you'll notice about this album: absolutely no solos. No harmonics, no squeals, nothing other than total simultaneous grinding. Fan-goddamn-tastic. And, with song titles like "Nuclear Rape Assault," "Merciless Satanic Genocide," and "Attack, Annihilate, Desecrate," the entire festering attitude of the band is set in concrete.
Satan's the winner, here, metal folks. If you have any doubts, just crank this motherf*cker to 11 and watch yourself go fetal in a dark corner. Throw the goats.....
