This photograph was captured on the Sonoma Coast at Jenner, during the same extraordinary sunset session as the other earlier Headlands images on this site. Shot on a Fujifilm GFX medium‑format camera paired with a Nikkor 80–400mm ED VR lens, the combination delivers remarkable resolution, tonal depth, and edge‑to‑edge clarity.

A line of five pelicans glides across the glowing horizon, their silhouettes cutting a perfect diagonal through the last light of day. The sun sinks low, radiating warm gold and rose tones that melt into the Pacific — a scene with a distinctly Rumisque edge, where realism and atmosphere blur into something almost painterly.

This image is presented exactly as it was captured:
No Photoshop. No color manipulation.
The vivid hues come straight from the Velvia film simulation, which renders the true sunset color exactly as it appeared.

This photograph is also featured in the book, Highway 1 Unlimited (available on this site). Part of the California Coast / Highway 1 Collection.
