A beautifully delicate and undeniably charming vintage Dresden lace porcelain ballerina figurine, capturing a graceful moment mid-dance with outstretched arms and a softly poised expression.
She wears a traditional lacework dress in soft white and pale blue, adorned with tiny hand-applied floral accents and finished with a subtle gilded base. The craftsmanship reflects the classic Dresden lace technique, where real lace was dipped into porcelain slip and fired—burning away the fabric and leaving behind an intricate ceramic lace structure.
Despite her fragility, she still carries a wonderful presence—almost as if caught mid-performance on a miniature porcelain stage.
This piece bears a purple crown over a stylised “D” mark, associated with Dresden porcelain decorators in Germany.
Unlike Meissen (famous for crossed swords), Dresden studios often:
Decorated porcelain blanks produced elsewhere
Applied their own hand-painted finishes and lacework
Used crown and “D” variations as studio marks
The handwritten script on the base is likely a decorator’s or pattern note, rather than a factory mark.
Dresden lace figurines became especially popular in the early to mid-20th century, admired for their elegance and technical difficulty. Each example is unique due to the handmade lace process.
The lace on Dresden figurines isn’t moulded—it was once real fabric. After firing, the cloth vanishes completely, leaving only the porcelain behind. This makes every surviving piece something of a small miracle… and explains why so many show battle scars from the passage of time.
Height: approx. 8.5 cm
Several breakages to the delicate lace skirt
Some floral (vegetal) decorations missing or damaged
No visible repairs detected
Light age-related wear to base and paint
This is not a perfect collector’s example, but rather a characterful and honest vintage piece—ideal for display, restoration, or study.
