"Buckskin Charlie" (Chief Sapiah): This portrait depicts the legendary Southern Ute Chief who led his people from 1880 until 1936. Known as a "Peace Chief," Buckskin Charlie was a respected negotiator and a recipient of the Indian Peace Medal from President Benjamin Harrison.
"Hopi Maiden": This iconic image captures a young Hopi woman with the traditional "squash blossom" (butterfly) hairstyle. In Hopi culture, this beautiful and intricate style was traditionally worn by unwed women to signify their readiness for marriage and deep connection to the earth.
