Beginning in September 1945 (after the Japanese were defeated), American and Allied forces began coming ashore at the Japanese Naval Center at Yokosuka. Marine Corps units were some of the first to arrive.
Prior to the arrival of American troops, most Japanese people thought that their “new overlords” would demand basic necessities be provided to them, despite Japan’s own scarcity of basic rations & supplies.
However, after General MacArthur ordered that the occupation troops would bring their own provisions to Yokosuka, the Japanese people started changing their minds, realizing that “their new caretakers” were eventually going to be benevolent to the Japanese devastated nation, … gradually giving up most of their fears that they would become slaves to the Americans …
The Human Relationship factor took a new role, and before too long, American servicemen were holding hands in public with their Japanese dates, which was a common practice at the time, and … about The Only Thing permitted in public (kissing was not allowed), when a couple started seeing each other…
