Condition
Antique two-volume set in three-quarter leather over pebbled cloth boards with gilt top edges. Both volumes show exterior wear, including rubbing, scuffing, edge wear, bumped corners, and wear to the spine ends. Volume I has heavier spine wear, with losses to the leather spine covering and visible cracking/splitting along the exterior hinge/joint. Both volumes show old interior and exterior hinge repairs; the repairs are functional but visually obvious, especially on the exterior. Bindings remain solid overall and the books handle well, but they are repaired copies, not untouched examples. Interiors are much nicer than the exteriors: pages are very clean for the age, with no foxing noted, strong portrait plates/illustrations, and attractive gilt top edges. Large, heavy set, approximately 11.5 inches tall and about 13.5 lbs combined. Please review all photos carefully for exact condition.
