Here is a ticket stub to the March 16, 1971 game between the
Knicks and Lakers at MSG. The Knickerbockers won, 115-82. After the game Bill Bradley told the press, “This
is the night the Knicks shot the lights out”, joking about the power failure that hit in
the 3rd quarter. The PA system and scoreboard went out. The escalators
stopped working, and only a dim light was left on over the court itself. This was a first ever power loss in the
3-year-old Garden.
The trouble did not effect New York’s shooting; they shot .544 overall. Plus, they scored 35 points in the half-light of the 4th quarter.
DeBusschere starred with 18 points, 20 rebounds.
Willis Reed was strong with 14 pts, 11 reb.
Frazier and Bradley combined for 43 pts and 12 assists.
