REFERENCE: Additional Comments: I am pleased to present this rare, original oil painting by Peg Kittinger! This is her original oil painting titled "Adobe Casa in Winter at Mountain Base" that is mentioned in her AI biography. It reflects her mid-century aesthetic, likely influenced by her time painting in Taos Canyon and living in Albuquerque, where she was an active educator and artist after 1935. Peg Kittinger Peg Kittinger was also one of the Kansas City Society of Artists founders, in 1921. Thomas Hart Benson was one of the members. “Mrs L B (Peg) Kittinger” was an artist and art teacher who lived in Chapala for about nine years, from 1955 to 1964. Her address in 1955 was Morelos #181, though she later had a home in Chula Vista. Life and Artistic Career New Mexico Period: After her husband's death in 1935, Kittinger lived in Albuquerque. She taught art in Santa Fe and Albuquerque and spent summers painting in Taos Canyon. Lake Chapala Period: In the late 1950s or early 1960s, she moved to the Lake Chapala area in Mexico, living in Chula Vista. She was an active member of the local expat artistic community. Media and Style: She worked in various media including metal and weaving but is best known for her oil paintings. Her subjects often included landscapes, such as "Adobe Casa in Winter at Mountain Base." Recognition Kittinger held several notable exhibitions during her career, including: Botts Memorial Hall (1952): A one-person show in Albuquerque featuring her paintings, weaving, and metalwork. Santa Fe Museum (1953): A joint exhibition showcasing work by female artists. Kansas City Society of Artists: She was also affiliated with the Kansas City artistic community, where she passed away in 1964. Today, her work is sought after by collectors interested in the Lake Chapala artistic circle or mid-century Southwest art. Source: Tony Burton for Lake Chapala Artists
