Dryalite Headlight Moisture Reduction Kit (PAIR)
For BMW F10 headlights with a flat top cover and no removable dust cap (top panel type).
✅ Key points
- A relatively simple DIY installation that can help reduce moisture/condensation and save big bills.
- Much cheaper than professional resealing (often ~£250 per side), and replacement headlights can exceed £1,000+.
- Two fitting options: soldering iron method (cleanest) or 60mm hole saw.
- Includes 2 × 50g silica gel packs. If moisture returns, the desiccant can be re-activated and reused.

Designed to be simple to install
The finished design looks simple because it was purposely engineered that way. This kit went through significantly more development time than any other Dryalite product, with the goal of making installation as straightforward as possible.
Developed with consultation from professional engineers and refined with feedback from Absolute BM (Worcester). We carried out test installations on two vehicles before releasing the final version to the public.
For these sealed top-cover headlights, this is currently a unique purpose-built solution intended to help owners avoid the cost and hassle of resealing or replacing expensive units.
Installation overview
⏱ Real-world time guide
Soldering iron method: took ~10 minutes to make the hole on my first try.
Hole saw method: faster cutting, but cleanup can take longer than 10 minutes. Some swarf can be very difficult to remove without compressed air.
Method A (recommended): Soldering iron / pyrography tool
- Position the ring on the headlight top cover in the correct location.
- Use the included white marker to draw a guide circle within the ring opening.
- Heat the tool to around 280–300°C (guide only). Higher is easier to push through but can create more smoke/mess (use ventilation / mask).
- Melt a series of holes around the guide, then join them up to form one opening.
- Test fit: ensure the bottom screw-in piece passes through. The hole doesn’t need to be pretty just large enough without removing too much material.
- Drill pilot holes: keep the ring in the exact final position and drill through the ring’s 4 guide holes using the 2mm drill bit.
- Important: while drilling, hold the ring firmly against the headlight housing so it cannot move.
- Secure the ring with the supplied M3 self-tapping screws (snug, do not over-tighten).
- Screw in the bottom piece (hand tight).
- Place the 50g silica gel pack inside the Dryalite cap, then screw on the lid/cover (hand tight).
Method B: 60mm hole saw (faster cut, more cleanup)
- Fit the included drill guide hole piece (used only to drill the pilot hole).
- Using the small drill bit, drill the pilot hole through the guide piece. Hold the ring firmly so it doesn’t shift while drilling.
- Remove the ring + guide piece.
- Fit the 60mm hole saw to the drill (with the pilot drill bit installed) and cut the 60mm hole, using the pilot hole to guide it.
- Vacuum thoroughly. Expect more swarf; some pieces may be hard to remove without compressed air.
- Re-position the ring in its final location and drill the 4 pilot holes through the ring’s built-in guide holes using the 2mm drill bit.
- Secure the ring with the supplied self-tapping screws, screw in the bottom piece (hand tight), add the silica gel inside, then screw on the lid/cover (hand tight).
⚠ Hole size note
The opening doesn’t have to be neat. The key is: big enough for the threaded part to pass through, but not so large that you remove too much material. Oversizing can leave too little plastic for the self-tapping screws to bite into securely. Using a 60mm hole saw or a marked guide circle helps keep the hole within the safe range.
