What is the AC Condenser?
The AC Condenser is a heat exchanger that converts the refrigerant from a gas to a liquid state. As a part of the car A/C system, the condenser is installed on the front of the vehicle, usually next to or directly in front of the radiator.
The role of the AC condenser is to convert the refrigerant in the system from a gas to a very cold liquid, thus cooling the interior of the car. Condensers give you comfort when driving in hot weather, they also remove heat from the car and balance the temperature.
How to know if a AC condenser is bad?
-Burning Smell
When your condenser starts to fail, heat can’t escape from your air conditioning system. That heat can build up until the components are so hot that they begin to burn. Turn on your AC, and you’ll be able to smell it.
-Warm Air from Vents
Before things progress to burning, you may begin to feel warmth air in the vents. If you accidentally blow a stream of warm air every time you turn on the air conditioner, check the condenser promptly.
-Overheating While Idling
Under normal circumstances, when the vehicle starts again, the AC condenser will cool through the received airflow, but the bad condenser will accumulate heat in the process, so that sufficient cooling effect cannot be achieved
-Lack of Airflow
If you turn on the air conditioner and there is no airflow, it is likely that the AC condenser is damaged or the vent is blocked, and in most cases, the insufficient airflow will be accompanied by strange noises, you need to pay more attention.
What is the Radiator Cooling Fan?
The radiator cooling fan is one of the components that make up the vehicle cooling system and is usually installed between the radiator and the engine. In some vehicles, the fan is located between the grille and the radiator. Its role is to cool the radiator and reduce the temperature of the engine, thus preventing the car from overheating.
Signs that the radiator cooling fan is not working:
-Engine overheating
The radiator and radiator cooling fan are responsible for absorbing all the heat from the engine (through the coolant) and blowing it away from the vehicle. So if your engine starts to overheat, it's a sign that something may be wrong with your radiator or radiator cooling fan.
-Engine running hot at low speeds
The radiator cooling fan is not necessary at high speeds, so it is usually only activated at low speeds. Therefore, if the engine overheats when the car is traveling at low speed, and the heat dissipates when it is traveling at high speed, it is almost certain that the radiator cooling fan failure causes overheating.
-Fan not spinning at idle
Since the radiator cooling fan only starts at idle or low speed, you can simply turn on the car and monitor the fan to see if the radiator cooling fan is working properly. If the fan does not start after the engine reaches normal idle temperature, the radiator fan may not work properly.
If the outside temperature is below 60-70 °F (16-21 °C), this method may not work. The outside temperature may never reach the point where it forces the radiator cooling fan to start.
