ntique Chinese mother-of-pearl gaming counters
Two has small chips and one has corner missing, see pictures

  • Origin: These were typically hand-carved in Canton (Guangzhou), China, specifically for the European market during the 18th and 19th centuries.
  • Usage: They were used in card games like Ombre, Quadrille, and Pope Joan for bidding and scoring before modern plastic chips existed.
  • Production Era: Most sets were produced between 1720 and 1840. Their production declined after 1840 when new card games became popular and manufacturing costs rose.
