Japanese Hanging Scroll Kakejiku This vintage Japanese hanging scroll (kakejiku or makimono) features two green, gray, and beige carp swimming in a pond. Some water plants are also pictured. This piece is signed with a name and a red seal. Kakejiku is a Japanese picture or calligraphy mounted on paper. It was a tool for spreading Buddhism in Japan and has since been integrated into Japanese culture as an interior decoration. Tokokake is used at the Tokonoma in a tatami room. Chakake is used in the tea ceremony room, and Buddha-kake is used on the Buddhist altar.
