These Epiphone EB-98 banjos were available from 1972 to 1979 and were made in Japan. This example is in good condition, no repairs are needed and it's fully functional. Except for the armrest it appears to be original throughout. It has an 11-inch head, typical bluegrass banjo construction with a thick laminated wood shell topped with a 20-hole flat head tone ring. The flange, tension hoop (or stretcher band) and tone ring all have the same kind of tarnish over a satin-silver color which is not chrome or nickel plating, so we're assuming those parts are an alloy of some sort.

It has its original geared tuners on headstock with original friction peg 5th tuner. It looks like the tailpiece is also original but the nice armrest appears newer. Very little playing wear to the finish, frets show only a tiny bit of fret wear so while this banjo is probably 50 years old it just hasn't seen much use. Mahogany neck and resonator, 22-fret rosewood fingerboard. String scale is 26 1/4", neck is 1 1/8" wide at the nut. Original case is missing the lower portion of the main latch but everything else works.
