A very unusual antique silk and velvet brocade made in Belgium, probably in Ghent in the last quarter of the nineteenth century.

This strip would have been used as a wall hanging, to decorate a narrow part of a wall, probably between two windows, or sewn into a larger panel and used as a backdrop for a bedroom or living/dining room.

In pretty good condition with the colours as pristine as the day it was made, this very ornate piece of fabric has woven flowers and baskets and leaves in the Renaissance style.
There is slight wear to the thread on the side and at the top right side as seen in the last three photos. Very minor and does not affect the pattern nor the look .

Belgium circa 1870
