A lovely pair of antique damask linen napkins dating from the late nineteenth or very early twentieth century.
The central part is hand embroidered with a red monogram S E in a vignette of woven floral patterns.
Made for a vineyard, a wine growing family, hence the red letters on a white background.
The cloth would have been very expensive and the owners might have had them made as part of a wedding trousseau.
Measurements are 74 cm x 70 cm
France circa 1890-1900
