Michael Hugh "Middle Earth Pottery" stoneware bowl decorated in cobalt and copper.

It is 25cm in diameter, 8cm to the rim and weighs 1.1kg.

Excellent condition, like new, no chips, cracks, wear or repairs.

Michael Pugh is a self taught potter who originally dug his own wild clays and built and fired his kilns with wood, while establishing Middle Earth Pottery in the early 1970s.

Late in the 1980s he built a new open air, gas-fired studio, and today continues to make white stoneware clay with painted decorations in cobalts and copper.

His inspiration comes from marine creatures and vegetation, swamps and lagoons and their wildlife.

Michael has worked in Japan and Bali and his glaze recipes are inherited from China and Japan's traditional potters.
