Japanese Clay Bell Dorei Temari Ball Vtg Tsuchi-Suzu Floral White Pink Red DR634

Vtg Japanese Clay Bell Dorei

This is a vintage Japanese clay bell, Dorei or Tsuchi-Suzu, shaped like a colorful temari ball. White, pink, red, green, and yellow, with a traditional geometric design, this ball has a gold paper band around the middle and a red-and-white string attached to the top. There is a small white clay ball inside.
Dorei bells have a long history and have been used in festivals and ceremonies since the Jomon period (about 13000 to 2300 years ago), when they were said to have the power to ward off evil spirits.
