Mounted on black cardboard. -- in good condition. || Walter Trautschold (1902-1969) was a German painter, draftsman, caricaturist, illustrator and set designer. He was the son of the actor and director Gustav Trautschold. He received his artistic training at the Berlin State School of Arts and Crafts under Eduard Suhr. Trautschold made a name for himself as a painter when he was in his early 20s. Later he also created sculptures and designed sets for the theater. As the older brother of the actress Ilse Trautschold, Walter Trautschold quickly made contacts with the cabaret scene and maintained close contact with the famous "Catacomb". He worked as a draftsman and illustrator for this cabaret and repeatedly challenged Nazi politics with his work. He was even briefly imprisoned with other Catacomb members. After the war, Trautschold lived in the Berlin artists' colony and supplied the Great Berlin Art Exhibition with his works. Since 1946 he was a member of the Professional Association of Visual Artists in Berlin.
