Offered here is a vintage folded brochure measuring approximately 3.5 x 6 inches (folded) promoting Mission San Juan Capistrano in San Juan Capistrano, California. Printed in green ink with black illustration and text, this attractive tourist handout features a stylized cover image of the mission ruins along with period typography reading “The Jewel of the Missions” and “U.S. Highway 101.”
The interior includes a charming hand-drawn location map of Southern California showing Santa Monica, Pasadena, Riverside, Elsinore, Oceanside, San Diego, and other landmarks, along with descriptive historical text about the founding of the mission in 1776 by Fray Junípero Serra. The text references restoration work, the Angelus bells, and its status as a key California historic site midway between Los Angeles and San Diego.
The graphic style, Highway 101 reference, and printing format strongly suggest a 1930s–1940s roadside tourism era piece, likely distributed to motorists traveling the Pacific Coast corridor before the interstate system.
Condition appears good overall with light age toning and handling wear typical of vintage ephemera. No major tears visible in the provided images. Please review all photos carefully.
A nice example of early California mission revival tourism material, suitable for collectors of:
California ephemera
Mission memorabilia
Highway 101 travel history
Junípero Serra historical material
Depression-era roadside Americana
Authentic period piece related to family, history or local heritage - well-suited for historical collections, genealogical /genealogy research, or museum acquisition. Vintage or Antique.
