Apple Yarn Bowl, #24. Approximately 20cm diameter and 9 cm high. Made from a very old Apple tree which was growing in my neighbours garden. It had become very unstable and risked falling onto his greenhouse, so unfortunately it had to go.
Finished with wax to a super smooth feel, so the wool spins round with no effort, and a dished base for stability.Unless otherwise stated, all my woodturnings are finished with food safe Carnauba wax.
This bowl is made by me, here in my workshop/studio on the edge of the North Yorkshire
Moors, where I've been woodturning for over 12 years, making a variety of turned and handcrafted items,
such as bowls, pens, trays, plates, clocks, cutting boards and yarn bowls, all using local
timber, mostly from pruned and fallen trees, some felled for safety and some from garden
developments, and on principle I don't use exotic, rare species, imported or commercially
felled timber, unless salvaged and upcycled.
My bowls and yarn bowls are not cheap imports. Neither are they mass produced
light weight bowls. These are unique items produced from scratch in the UK, from local
timber, finished to a really high standard. Some of the woods I work with have flaws, knots or shakes, and sometimes old insect
damage, and I enjoy the challenge of working with them because they produce unique
qualities in the finished pieces. These are "fixed" during production, to leave a smooth
finish.
