Offered here is a lot of four original U.S. Army Eagle “I” cuff buttons from the American Civil War period, featuring the classic Federal eagle with shield and the letter “I” on the chest.
This lot consists of four matching cuff-size buttons, commonly worn on Union Army uniforms during the 1861–1865 period.
The reverse of each button appears to be backmarked:
SCOVILLE & CO EXTRA
Scovill Manufacturing Company of Waterbury, Connecticut, was a major and well-documented Civil War–era button maker. The backmarks, construction, and design are all correct for original period manufacture.
All four buttons are solid, some shanks are present a few are not but all display beautiful, undisturbed patina consistent with genuine Civil War–era use.
