Precipitated sulfur
INCI: Sulphur praecipitatum
Appearance: yellow powder with a specific odor
Solubility: easily in Polysorbate-80, insoluble in water (dispersible) and alcohol; partially soluble in hot oil 1:100
Application in cosmetology:
- in a small concentration (up to 10%) promotes the formation of a new epidermis (a high concentration of sulfur leads to peeling);
- inhibits the formation of comedones;
- is used to eliminate dandruff (for example, in solid shampoo-soap);
- is used to treat diseases caused by hypersecretion of the sebaceous glands;
- in masks, shampoos to stimulate hair growth.
Methods of administration and recommended dosage:
Recommended concentration of administration - up to 5% (rarely - up to 10%).
When making soap-shampoo from scratch, sulfur is introduced together with the excess fat (it is first thoroughly dispersed in oils).
Safety precautions:
Individual reactions to sulfur, irritation after its use are rare. Sulfur-containing preparations have a characteristic specific odor and can stain clothes.
