RARE, VINTAGE, VERY GENTLY USED, EXCELLENT, VINTAGE CONDITION, AUTHENTIC, MEN'S, JAPANESE YUKATA KIMONO WITH TRADITIONAL MOTTLED ABSTRACT GRID DESIGN with SIMPLE COTTON TIE BELT.

Men's yukata in excellent condition have become difficult to find This is a very nice example with a lovely, traditional pattern.

Please remember that Japanese clothes are generally smaller than European clothes. So please check the measurements before buying.

The kimono is made of good quality, fine but strong, smooth, durable cotton. It is fairly soft and nice to touch.
The kimono is mostly machine-stitched and formed in the traditional style.

The pattern is a classic type of design. There is an underlying mottled pattern in white, mid blue and grey-blue. On top of this is a very dark blue mottled grid pattern.

This example is partially lined in just in the shoulder area which is quite typical in this sort of summer wear kimono.

I often get asked if I can supply a yukata with a belt so that it can easily be worn as a dressing gown (they are traditionally worn with obi belts which would be bought separately). So I am offering this authentic Japanese yukata kimono with a complementary, simple, cotton tie belt made from very dark blue, vintage, kimono cotton.

In Japan this yukata is a men's yukata (the sleeve slit is smaller & closed on a man's yukata) and the pattern is relatively plain compared to women's.

AGE & CONDITION: This yukata probably fairly contemporary as it is mostly machine stitched. It has no labels though so may have a bit of age. I would suggest it is circa 2000s. It is difficult to date these kind of traditional kimono accurately because they have been made in the same way for many decades

Very Gently used and in near mint vintage condition.  There are no conspicuous faults at all.  It is a vintage, very gently used item in great condition overall but please do not expect it to be exactly like brand new.

SIZE: This yukata is very slightly slimmer than average. Please remember that  Japanese clothes can be small/short by UK/US standards so please check the measurements given below against your own dressing gown to compare.

I think it would fit a ranges of sizes because it is a wrap over style, up to a maximum of UK size M/L, so not very large men

MEASUREMENTS:
Cuff to cuff width is 50"/127cm.
Overall length is 54.5"/138.5cm.
The width across the back side seam to side seam 24"/61cm. The width all around the kimono from the front of one side, all the way round the back to the front of the other side, at the waist level is about 53"/134.5cm and please remember you need a good crossover in front.

The belt is about size 165cm/65" long by 3cm/1.25" The set together weighs about 550g.

YUKATA comes from “YU” meaning bath and “Katabira” meaning under-clothing. Over one thousand years ago court nobles wore linen Kimonos or “yukatabira” which were draped loosely over the body after taking a bath. Yukata gradually became worn by the warriors, who would also use the yukata like a towel to dry after a bath. The general public began to wear cotton kimonos about three hundred years ago when the Japanese public bath became popular. These kinds of light weight cotton kimonos were worn everyday as casual clothing after taking a bath—bathrobes! Now the yukata is widely used for everything from traditional Japanese dance, for summer festival wear and casual wear in the summer, to simple night attire. Today, yukata generally means an unlined cotton kimono for casual wear.

Washing information - Almost all yukata can be hand or machine washed at low temperatures. However, sometimes, vintage yukata can have colour runs in water so please test before washing. wash at low temperature and separately. I would hand wash the belt.

All information is to the best of my knowledge. Please bear in mind, that colours do not always show absolutely accurately on photos and on monitors although they should be close to reality.

My items are mostly vintage and are not returnable unless grossly mis-described, so please check the details and measurements before bidding/buying. Please be aware that vintage clothing does not usually 'look like new' even when it is in excellent condition. Some slight general signs of ageing and use should be expected. If these are conspicuous, they will be mentioned in the description.
