Original antique pinback button/ribbon from the JUNIOR ORDER OF UNITED AMERICAN MECHANICS (JR.O.U.A.M.)
The ribbon reads as follows; ANNUAL SESSION STATE COUNCIL JR. O. U. A. M. Salisbury, MD. APRIL, 1898.
The ribbon appears to be blue silk with a rigid-paper backing, which also carries the manufacturer’s logo and name (the manufacturer of the ribbon/button) on the reverse side. The ribbon is suspended from a pinback button, showing a Masonic emblem surrounded by banners reading “LIBERTY” “VIRTUE” “PATRIOTISM, and the words “Junior Order United American Mechanics (at the top of button), with the manufacturer’s name again, in very tiny print at the very bottom of the button (Whitehead & Hoag Co.)
