Original Finnish theatrical movie poster for Gung Ho! (1943), directed by Ray Enright and released in Finland under the title Taistelu viidakossa ("Battle in the Jungle"). Starring Randolph Scott, Robert Mitchum, Rod Cameron, Alan Curtis, and Noah Beery Jr.
A World War II combat film based on the true story of Carlson’s Raiders and their daring U.S. Marine Corps raid on Makin Island in 1942. The film combines semi-documentary realism with action-driven storytelling and was promoted at the time as an authentic depiction of modern jungle warfare.
The Finnish poster artwork by Toimi Kiviharju is visually striking, featuring bold diagonal composition, dramatic palm silhouettes, and dynamic battle imagery in a vivid red–blue color palette. The strong graphic contrasts and energetic layout give the poster excellent wall presence and make it one of the more attractive Nordic designs for a WWII combat title of this era.
Finnish theatrical posters from the late 1940s and early 1950s were produced in relatively small print runs compared to their American counterparts. As a result, surviving examples are increasingly difficult to find today, particularly for internationally known war films with strong visual artwork.
Finnish posters were printed in very small quantities, making surviving examples scarce, especially for classic World War II action films.
