Full product description

Jan van Haasteren

Born in the Dutch city of Schiedam, Jan van Haasteren studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rotterdam. He began his career at the advertising agency Nijgh & Van Ditmar, but when he started helping Loek van Delden create a comic strip for the newspaper "Smidje Verholen", things changed. It was then that Jan realized that drawing stories, telling them in pictures, would be his calling. He then worked at the animation studio "Marten Toonder", but soon joined the production of comics. From 1963-1966, he mainly worked on the creation of the strip "Kappie", as well as illustrating numerous stories with Disney characters (a weekly comic strip with Donald Duck, the series about the big wolf gang, as well as "The Flintstones"). In 1966 he left Toonder and joined the Joop Geesink studio, where he was one of the creators of the series “Rick de Kikker”, which was published on paper. After 1966, Jan worked as a freelancer, and in 1975 he started his own satirical magazine – “De Vrije Balloen”. In it he worked under two pseudonyms: Fast Harold and Jean Pion. In parallel, he also worked in the field of advertising, where he created a number of memorable posters. But one step, one commitment, which he took at the invitation of Jumbo turned out to be particularly profitable, because it was with his magnificent puzzles (“crammed”) that he became world famous. In 2013, Jumbo opened Studio Jan van Haasteren, which produces the legendary puzzles. Two other artists are also associated with the studio and receive the ovations of a million-strong audience – Rob Derks and Dick Haynes.

Jumbo

The history of the Dutch company Јumbo began in 1853, when Engelbert Hausmann, a hereditary merchant, left Germany for the Netherlands and settled in Amsterdam. In 1860, William Hotte arrived with him, with whom they joined forces to bring a selected collection to the Netherlands, where there are no puzzles or toys. An expansion in this direction followed - Messano metal constructors, dolls and balls, already in 1920.

In 1930, the company also included a wooden elephant, which appeared under the name Jumbo. This is how the Јumbo brand and the elephant, which is its symbol, appeared. After the Second World War, card games and board games developed. Ludo and Elektro followed, and from 1958 Jumbo started their own production of puzzles. In 1964, the company bought the rights to sell the Barbie doll to the Netherlands. Jan van Haasteren's puzzle series was born in 1980, followed by road games, followed by mobile phone applications, and so on - more and more pleasant surprises for children and parents!

The puzzle pieces of the brand are standard, and their number is from 150 to 3000 pieces. The variety of themes is wide, ensuring that families will find something for everyone in the Jumbo product catalogue. In addition to classic puzzles, here you will find riddle puzzles and several puzzles in one. Images with animals and people, humorous cartoons, breathtaking sights and landmarks, fantasy and cartoon characters enjoy the highest demand. And the most popular series are: Jan Van Haasteren, Premium Collection, Disney Jumbo, WASGIJ?.
