(Senju kagai yori chōbō no Fuji)
Authentic Japanese Woodblock Print
Takamizawa Mokuhansha Preservation Edition — Taishō to Early Shōwa Period (c. 1925–1935)
This print corresponds to the historic Takamizawa Mokuhansha preservation reprints of Hokusai’s Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji, produced during the original Takamizawa release of the series in the Taishō period and continuing into the early Shōwa era.
Takamizawa editions of Hokusai’s Fugaku sanjūrokkei are preserved in major institutional collections and are widely regarded as the finest historical reprints of the series, created using traditional Edo-period techniques after original 19th-century impressions became scarce.
From the series: Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji (Fugaku sanjūrokkei)
Original design date: c. 1830–1832 (Edo period)
Originally conceived as a set of thirty-six prints, the popularity of the series led to the addition of ten more designs, making it one of the most celebrated and influential landscape series in Japanese art history.
This composition depicts a procession of samurai marching through the Senju pleasure quarters, carrying firearms wrapped in cloth as they pass thatched-roof shops lining the road. The harvested fields and golden stubble suggest a late-autumn setting, while the snow-capped peak of Mount Fuji rises calmly in the distance.
The scene balances strong narrative movement in the foreground with a wide panoramic landscape, contrasting human activity with the enduring presence of Mount Fuji.

Individually examined under magnification to confirm printing method and publisher seal.
This print displays gentle, even oxidation typical of traditional washi paper and natural pigments used in late Taishō to early Shōwa woodblock printing.
Such warm toning is expected and desirable among collectors, as it confirms age and distinguishes historical woodblock prints from modern bright-white reproductions.
Institutional photographs may appear cooler or cleaner due to controlled lighting and digital normalization and may not reflect the true appearance of physical prints.
