I would keep this set if I didn't already have one that is very similar. It is the first complete set I've found and amazing to have been stored in the original box. It is a wonderful stained dark wood abstract sharp triangle shaped creche with a melted acrylic bead stained "glass" panel that lights up beautifully! The Holy Family is white glazed porcelain from Japan. The color that comes through is excellent. No fading!
The set works..... it looks just like the one on the lid of the original box. Last time it was used was 1977 (by the date of some of the old, yellowed newspaper that wrapped the ceramic pieces inside). Marvelous condition, occasional wood scratches easy to touch-up but not noticeable as they are. No cracks or breaks in the stained glass. Electrical components work. It takes an intermediate base bulb. The only one I had to test it and take a photo showing it worked, was a high intensity bulb that you wouldn't want to use because of the heat, and it is not included. I recommend running down a cool burning tube light to light it all the way up the back. There is an on/off switch on the light socket. The cord is pliable, but a little stained from some red tissue paper that was wrapped around it. Standard 110-volt plug.
The box is sad. It has had numerous old tape repairs and worn edges and soft corners, but it still works to store the set during the off-season..... it has done its job to protect the set for 61 years, so the wear is not surprising. Set will be sent in the original box, but re-boxed for shipment.
