For sale is a charming matching pair of limited edition colour lithographs by the much-loved Lancashire artist Tom Dodson (1910–1991), titled "The Press" and "The Spot"

These evocative prints capture the nostalgic warmth of working-class life in northern England during the 1920s and 1930s – everyday domestic scenes that Dodson became famous for. A self-taught painter who only took up art seriously in retirement, Tom Dodson quickly earned the affectionate title “Lancashire’s Favourite Artist”. His gentle, humorous depictions of children, backstreet homes, wash days and kitchen life struck a chord with many, and his limited editions remain highly sought-after among collectors of northern and nostalgic British art.
Both prints are from the same edition of 850, published by Studio Arts in the late 1980s:
“The Press” – hand-numbered 199/850“The Spot” – hand-numbered 196/850Each is pencil-signed by Tom Dodson in the lower margin and bears the embossed Studio Arts blind stamp (the raised “SA” circle visible on the paper). They also carry the printed copyright mark © Studio Arts 1987 in the image.
The prints are in excellent condition. The colours are still bright and fresh with no fading, no foxing, no stains and no creases or tears. They have clearly been well looked after and displayed away from direct sunlight.
Presented in their original matching wooden frames with a warm walnut finish and subtle gold inner trim, each measures approximately 55 cm high × 44 cm wide (portrait orientation, Outer Frame Size.) and is glazed for protection. The frames are solid and clean, showing only very minor age-related scuffs or light marks commensurate with careful display over the years – nothing detracting or requiring attention. Both are fitted with hanging cord and ready to hang straight on the wall.
This is a particularly nice pair, not only because the scenes complement each other beautifully (one a backyard wash-day scene, the other a cosy kitchen interior), but also because the edition numbers are pleasantly consecutive and relatively low in the run of 850.A lovely opportunity to acquire an authentic, signed, and stamped pair of Tom Dodson limited editions in very good order – ideal for anyone who appreciates nostalgic British art or has fond memories of Lancashire life.
