This Year of the Tiger design was first issued on January 5, 1998 in Seattle, WA in a sheet of 20 gummed 32¢ stamps. The same design was re-issued on January 6, 2005 in Honolulu, HI in a sheet of 12 self-adhesive 37¢ stamps (one of each zodiac animal). THIS gift sheet has been modified to have all 12 self-adhesive 37¢ stamps in the Year of the Tiger design.

The artist, Clarence Lee of Honolulu, created this intricate paper cut-out design using an airbrush. Calligrapher Lau Bun, also of Honolulu, drew the Kanji characters on the side of the souvenir sheet, which may be translated as "Happy New Year!" in English. The tiger is the 3rd of the 12 animals in the Chinese zodiac associated with the Lunar calendar. People of Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, Tibetan, and Mongolian heritage celebrate the Lunar New Year. People born in the Year of the Tiger are said to be courageous, strong, generous, sensitive, leaders and protectors, noble and honorable. They may be self-assured, but can also be hasty and unpredictable.
