Matty Beniers' most celebrated professional accomplishment is widely considered winning the Calder Memorial Trophy as the NHL's Rookie of the Year in 2022.
This award is highly significant because he was the first-ever draft pick for the Seattle Kraken expansion team and led all rookies in points and tied for the lead in goals during their first full season, helping the team reach the playoffs in only its second year of existence.
Matty Beniers received the Calder Memorial Trophy at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee, during the 2023 NHL Awards ceremony.

Beniers ended the season with three goals and nine points through 10 NHL games. Beginning his first full season in the NHL, Beniers was named as the Kraken's representative in the 2023 NHL All-Star Game. He appeared in 80 regular season games, leading all rookies in points, tying for the lead in goals
