California US Route 395 route marker.

Up for sale today is this California US Route 395 sign. Made to the exact California State Automobile Association standards, as used between 1934 and 1939 along this famous highway. This sign style was the second style of US route marker in California, and the first for US 395. The route was extended down from Washington in 1935, and therefore it received the 1934 style of highway marker from the get-go.

US Route 395 is the easternmost principal highway in California, and originally ran from San Diego through the Inland Empire area, overlapping Route 66 through Cajon Pass, and then heading north through the high desert. It briefly enters Nevada, passing through Minden, Carson City, and Reno, before looping back into California to head through Susanville and Modoc County, then continuing even further north through Oregon and Washington. This is the style that appeared along the northern segment.

An original of these, complete with the logo of the California State Automobile Association, is very hard to come by. They were retired from the roads of California long ago, with most of them being destroyed and only a few examples circulating on the collector's market. An original would easily run thousands of dollars on the collector's market. So here's your chance to get your hands on a fantastic display piece...without breaking the bank.

The sign is 12 by 11 inches, and weighs 3 lb. 11 oz.

This is a high quality, heavy steel replica sign. Accept no imitations that may be one-third this price, but are one-tenth the quality. No cheap tin to be found here, with the wrong fonts, layouts, size, shape, or any other manner of embarrassing imperfection. This one will make even the most discerning collector stick their nose into the sign, as it looks that good from that close!

Figure about 5 lb. 11 oz. for shipping, packed carefully and mailed from zip code 61833. Our signs are only printed when you buy them. Allow about 10 business days for manufacturing, in addition to the usual delivery time.

The watermark and bear logo in the design preview will not appear on the actual sign. We have begun adding a watermark because we have had problems with other companies copying our artwork to make lesser-quality imitations. You will only get this high level of quality in design and materials from Signs by Jake.
