Here is a one-of-a-kind Art Deco handmade wooden sign made up of individual letters, proclaiming "Merry Xmas" in their original vintage Christmas Red paint. (The use of the abbreviation "X" goes back to ancient times.) Based on the look of the typography, the handmade character, even the shade of red, I believe the Xmas Letters/Sign to be out of the 1930s or 40s. (So many wonderful things came out of home workshops in the Thirties when money was scarce, and in the 40s when materials were limited.) Art Deco lines are especially evident in the "M's", the "A" and the "Y". Each letter has two eyes (metal loops) on top for hanging individually ("A" has only one eye at top). Edges of the letters are nicely beveled on the front. The paint is in good shape but shows its age charmingly with some small chipping on edges or the odd tiny paint splatter. The letters each have a small mystery drill hole that does not go all the way thru, some letters it's in the front and some in the back--I never noticed them until just now! Colors vary in the photos, I think the close-ups in the Photo lineup maybe will give you the best idea. On my watch for the past twenty-some years, the Letters/Sign have only ever been inside. When displayed, they take me back in time, and I feel like I'm seeing something out of "Miracle on 34th Street". It's a Wonderful Sign:). Please see Photos, read everything including Condition, and let me know if you have questions. Thank you, and may your Christmases be merry.
