This listing is for 10+ Porcellio Ornatus Witch's Brew Isopods. You will receive a mix of juveniles and adults. All orders are over packed 5% to 10% to compensate for any nominal losses in the shipping process.

Porcellio Ornatus Witch's Brew is a beautifully patterned isopod. The common name "Witch's Brew" is subtle nod to it's distant cousin the Armadillidium "Magic Potion" isopod seeing they have the same dalmatian patterning with orange to yellow spotting on a white translucent base. The coloring will not be as pronounced on younger individuals, but will start to show from the sub adult size and up. But set up and care for for the this species being a Porcellio is a bit different. Porcellio Ornatus is quite large for isopod and like most other larger Porcellio is more designed to thrive in a semi-arid environment. Though they do have some specific care needs they are by no means extremely difficult to keep so long as you consistently provide them the core essentials.

Porcellio Ornatus originates in Spain, but has established itself in other parts of the world with comparable habitats. Being larger in size this species does need a bit more room than most common isopod species. A 5-10 glass tank or 12qt gasket sealed sterilite bin is fine for a starter colony of 12-20 individuals. A sharp moisture gradient with good ventilation should be provided with no more than 25% of the enclosure being damp. This can create challenges with keeping the moist area from drying out. A deeper substrate in this area can help with this since deeper soil will retain moisture longer. Some concave cork hides covered in spaghnum moss on top of a deeper substrate makes this minimal work. Just be sure you never let it dry out as all isopods still require a damp area to hydrate and breathe. This flashy isopod will eat all of the typical food options like various vegetables, powdered isopod diets like Repashy Morning Wood or Bug Burger. But like most Porcellio, they are very fond of protein based foods like freeze dried minnows, shrimp pellets, fish flakes and dried insects. An isopods primary diet above all is decayed wood and dried leaf litter so be sure these are always available in abundance.

Porcellio Ornatus Witch's Brew is still somewhat rare in the hobby at this time and is a highly sought out specimen for it's desireable color markings and relative ease of care. It is not an extremely sensitive species, but will be prone to crash if the care guidelines go astray for too long. But if you give them what they need consistently, making fine tune adjustments where needed, they will flourish and breed readily.

Claims process for DOA with LAG Coverage

Why is all of this necessary for LAG coverage? We truly believe the bulk majority of all buyers are honest and forthcoming when it comes to issues with DOA or other related shipping situations under LAG coverage that end up problematic. Sadly though, with years of experience selling and shipping fragile small invertebrates online, there are always a handful of individuals who will make fraudulent claims. Live animals are completely different than general merchandise which can easily be boxed up and returned for verification without worry of weather or other factors that affect purchases of live animals. All in all we want you to be happy with your purchase and provide the best service possible. If you have any specific questions or uncertainties about our LAG policy coverage or procedures please kindly reach out so we can best assist you.
