Sibenik Buttons – Croatian Traditional
The Šibenik button was originally a part of the traditional costume worn by men in the region. Today, it is a fashionable motif in jewelry-making. In 2007, the Croatian National Tourist Board declared the Šibenik button the most original Croatian souvenir. Today it is also used in the outfits worn by members of traditional Dalamatian a capella groups, or “klapas”.
The filigree technique is used to make gold and silver earrings, necklaces, rings, bracelets, pendants and brooches with the Šibenik button motif. Such pieces are often combined with coral and pearls to create a truly unique product.
Šibenik is the oldest native Croatian town and is famous for its rich cultural heritage. The Cathedral of St. James is one of the most significant architectural monuments from the Renaissance period in the entire country. Since 2000, it has been included on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
