Here we have a group of 56 trade beads that were found in Florida, these are very small glass beads, the average size being 1/8"; maybe a few smaller or larger, uncleaned. They vary in shape and size, due to the fact that these were hand made in Venice, Italy in the 1700's. During the second Seminole War on July 28, 1839, on the Caloosahatchee River east of Ft. Myer's the Battle of Caloosahatchee went down. Seminole Billy Bowlegs led a group that attacked Fort Denard and the nearby trading post in fear that they were about to be sent to Oklahoma on the trail of tears. Many lives were lost; almost all of the U.S. troops and the few that were left fled the scene down to the Gulf to escape. The site where the trading post sat was uncovered during construction and these beads were recovered at that time These are Venetian beads and are exactly as they were found, there is some debris still in the mix, mostly small pieces of shell; and several have dirt on them. I pick most of the debris out so I can get an accurate count. Shipped with tracking.
