Here we have a superb quality set of Vintage Silver Gilt and Enamel Cuff Links. Each chain linked pair is made up of one oblong plate with a checkerboard design surrounded by blue enamel and one oval plate with a linear design and silver surround. They come in a green leather gift box with a cream satin and velvet interior.
The cuff links were made in Birmingham by the renowned company Toye, Kenning & Spencer and date to 1996. The firm traces its history back to 1685 when Guillaume Toye arrived in England as a Huguenot refugee. Starting out as weavers, the firm soon specialised in metallic threads for the gentry and for military uniforms. They later moved into masonic regalia and then received their first Royal Warrant for producing items for the coronation of George VI, a feat they repeated for Elizabeth II and Charles III. They also produced the new FA Cup Trophy in 1992.
Condition is extremely good, with no dings, dents or damage, just the most minimal superficial surface wear that you would anticipate with use and the passage of time. Please make sure to view all the photographs as these form part of the description.
The oblong cuff links are 1.8cm by 1.3cm and the oval ones are 1.9cm by 1cm. Each pair extends 2.3cm. All together they weigh 13.9g.
The hallmarks, on the back of each pair, are of necessity small but well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter W for 1996 and the T K & S makers' mark for Toye, Kenning & Spencer.
