* ZacBo’s take on Firebirds: We like ‘em flat! They don’t have to be board-flat, but if they’re domey, we don’t source it. They must feel good on a forehand grip! As such, you won’t find any domey Firebirds on our storefront.
We’ve been feeling & throwing Firebirds for over 25 years (yes, before they were PDGA approved) & there is a general misalignment in the disc golf community regarding the vernacular of flatness. Some people claim FAF means “Flat as F#€k” instead of “Flat & Firm”, furthering the misunderstanding. And then some seller claims their disc is “flat”, yet when you see the side-profile, it’s clearly not flat. As such, we have developed a Scale to help describe and discern the flatness for our FireBirds.
ZacBo’s Flatness Scale (ZFS): The ZFS scale goes from 0-6:
0 - Board-Flat (literally; no shoulder. The disc is flat from nose to nose. A tiny few discs actually do this & most are MVP/Axiom)
1 - Near Board-Flat (very slight rise in shoulder and then flat straight across flight plate; Very overstable beefcakes)
2 - Flat (slight rise in shoulder and flat straight across)
3 - Near Flat (typical rise in shoulder that extends onto edge of flight plate; may look like a “bump” in the side-profile; still flat across top or minuscule rise at center)
4 - Neutral Flat (the center sits a bit higher than the shoulder-rise, but not domey)
5 - Micro Dome (distinct arch to the disc; still feels good on forehand; this is a “pushier” Bird; has more glide & typically less fade)
6 - Domey (a “pop-top”; we don’t throw, buy, or carry these)
