The USS Alabama is a National Historic Landmark and a significant symbol of military history in the United States. This postcard is a valuable representation of the ship's enduring legacy.

Commissioned in August 1942, the USS Alabama served in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters during World War II. The ship earned nine Battle Stars for its service and played a critical role in major operations including the Gilbert and Marshall Islands campaigns and the Battle of the Philippine Sea.

After decommissioning in January 1947, the battleship was preserved through a dedicated campaign by Alabama citizens, including schoolchildren raising funds with nickels and dimes. The ship was formally turned over to the state in 1964 and arrived at Mobile Bay in September 1964.

USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park opened to the public on January 9, 1965, and the ship was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1986. Today, the battleship remains a centerpiece of the park and a popular attraction for visitors.
