The Collected Short Stories of Ring Lardner. Published by The Modern Library, New York. Hardcover, with dust jacket. 467 pages plus a list of available titles.

The dust jacket shows a price of 95 cents. That means this copy was printed before November 1946, when the publisher raised prices. But we can date this copy more exactly because the original owner wrote "February 1943" on the front free endpaper. That makes this an early printing, since the first Modern Library edition of this work was published in 1941. The reverse of the dust jacket shows 281 titles available from The Modern Library.

The dust jacket is complete, with some wear to the edges and corners. There is a bookplate on the front free endpaper (for Evelyn Mages) and, as stated above, the handwritten notation "February 1943." The remainder of the pages are free of pen/pencil notations. There is some browning at the edges. The covers are well-preserved and the binding remains sound.

There is a crimp or bump in the upper corner of the paper near the fore-edge that affects the pages up to page 83. We are including a photograph of pages 50-51 as an example of the crimp at its most severe. Our low price reflects this condition issue.
