This postcard features the Thousand Columns (Las Mil Columnas) at Chichen Itza, Yucatan, Mexico.

Published by Mexfotocolor as part of their Mexican heritage series.

The Thousand Columns complex represents one of Chichen Itza's most significant architectural features, connected to the Temple of Warriors. Despite its name suggesting thousands of columns, the site contains approximately two hundred stone columns that once supported a vast roof system.

Archaeological excavations in the early twentieth century revealed bas-relief figures of warriors carved into these columns, reflecting the military culture of the Toltec period. This ceremonial plaza served as both a ritual center and a space for honoring warriors.

Chichen Itza achieved UNESCO World Heritage status in 1988, recognized as one of the greatest Maya centers on the Yucatan Peninsula. The site exemplifies cultural synthesis between Maya and Toltec civilizations during its golden age from 900-1200 CE.
