Born in Syracuse, New York in 1929, Carle became one of the most beloved children's book illustrators after creating "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" in 1969.

The book has sold over 50 million copies and been translated into more than 66 languages. Carle's artistic process involved painting tissue papers with acrylics to achieve vibrant colors and patterns, keeping his painted papers organized in flat file drawers arranged by color.

Prior to the mid-1980s, he used commercially available pre-dyed papers, but later employed acid-free paper and methyl cellulose adhesive rather than rubber cement to ensure longevity. The World of Eric Carle licensing program was established to extend his iconic artwork beyond books into various merchandise categories.

This postcard was produced during the height of Eric Carle's commercial licensing expansion in the 2010s, when The Joester Loria Group managed global licensing rights for The World of Eric Carle brand. In 2015, The World of Eric Carle won the LIMA Award for "Lifestyle: Art, Design, or Fashion Program," recognizing its successful extension into consumer products.
