This original 5 x 7 inch black and white photograph was taken and developed by Thomas Schmidler in Jersey City in 1980. The nighttime scene looks down onto a snow-covered street where parked cars sit beneath a fresh layer of snow. A lone figure stands near one of the cars under the glow of a streetlamp, while bare trees and a building in the background add depth and atmosphere to the quiet urban landscape.

Thomas Schmidler (1933–1991), a fine-art photographer and printmaker, developed all of his images in his own darkroom. His photographs often transform ordinary city views into evocative studies of light and shadow, revealing the poetry in everyday environments. This genuine vintage gelatin silver print is both a document of winter in 1980s New York and an artistic meditation on solitude and place.
