Rock City Gardens was developed by Garnet and Frieda Carter atop Lookout Mountain, transforming natural rock formations into a scenic trail beginning in 1932.
The Grand Corridor path winds between moss-covered boulders and native rhododendrons. It reflects Frieda Carter’s vision of a "rock garden" framed by European folklore influences.
Although geographically located in Georgia, the attraction was marketed to Chattanooga visitors and famously promoted with "See Rock City" barn signage during the Great Depression.
Today, Rock City remains a celebrated botanical and geological landmark, with the Grand Corridor offering an immersive forested passage through towering cliffs.
