Beware
of Counterfeit/Fake Hard Drives
Counterfeit portable hard drives drives are a growing issue, especially online, as they often contain a low-capacity storage component—such as a 16GB SD card—glued inside the casing along with lead weights to mimic the feel of a genuine portable hard drive.
They're then programmed to falsely report a much larger capacity, like 2TB, misleading buyers and putting their data at risk.
There are many External hard drives being listed for sale online claiming capacities like 2TB, 4TB, 8TB, or even
20TB for as little as £11 to £30.
These prices are significantly
lower than those of genuine branded drives.
When data is written beyond the actual capacity, it may overwrite existing data or become corrupted.
What seems like a bargain can quickly turn into a nightmare.
Data loss from fake drives can be permanent—or cost thousands to recover professionally.
Don't risk your photos, videos, work files, or irreplaceable memories just to save a bit of money.
Always choose quality over price when it comes to your data.
