note: Donn Fendler, a boy lost on Mount Katahdin in 1939, was found alive on July 25, 1939, after surviving for nine days in the wilderness, eventually reaching a hunting camp. He was found dehydrated and covered in insect bites and scratches, but he survived by following his Boy Scout training to follow a stream downhill. 

Fendler later wrote a book about his experience, titled Lost on a Mountain in Maine, and became a celebrated national hero for his resilience. He passed away on October 10, 2016, at the age of 90
