Dear Parents,

I take pen in hand to say I recd a letter from Charlie dated Camp on James River July 4th, saying he was better than where he last wrote.  He said their division was the rear guard and that they marched all night for three nights and fought the enemy every day and said that hey wee much exhausted.  He did not say a word about Curlas so of course the rumors that they are wounded is not true.  He only wrote a short letter and siad he should send another soon.  I recd the box all right and am much obliged for it. I have no news this time.
As ever, your “Hauk”
